Some of you may be aware that this year’s MLSC Rowing Race, due to be held on 3rd January 2022, has had to be postponed due to the recurrent COVID 19 situation and it’s hoped to be rearranged for a later date. We are really disappointed about this, but all is not lost in terms of revenue raised by the Basin Oars this year through the RNLI 200 Club as we are extremely proud to announce the total from this will be £5432 which is over £200 more than last year.

Many thanks one and all for your continued support and generosity over this year. We couldn’t have raised this amount of money for the RNLI without you!

Oars and Paws Fun Dog Show 2021

Best in Show 2021 Truffle

Best in Show 2021 Truffle

Our fun dog show finally happened on Saturday 18th September! We thought long and hard about whether to run the show this year due to the uncertainty of COVID restrictions. We decided to go ahead but on a much scaled down event promoting to just Heybridge Basin residents and their families.

We had a fabulous day with very warm sunshine and a manageable number of entrants and spectators and we raised a very respectable £460 for Clarks Farm Greyhound Re-homing centre, a local charity in Little Totham. We shall be visiting them next month to present them with the money and also have the chance to see some of the dogs.

We hope to run  the show next year, so hold the date for Saturday 17th September 2022!

We’ve asked him to tell us how he is going to treat his wife. Thank you all again so much for your continued and valued support.

2nd Quarter Big Oars Draws were drawn on Wednesday 30th June and the results were as follows:

1st Prize £250 to No. 87 Lew Schnurr who very generously donated it to the RNLI – thank you so much Lew!

2nd Prize £100 to No. 125 Doug Milsted

Congratulations everyone and thank you for your continued support.

May draw results were £50 each to number 199 Samantha Martin, number 194 Colin Trowles, number 114 Rob Bryson and number 70 Peter Ellis. Peter Ellis has put his £50 back into the RNLI pot, saying that they need the money more than him.

Thank you Peter, and thank to you all for your continued support.

On Saturday 24th April we had a cheque presentation from us to the Maldon Branch of the RNLI in respect of last year’s total funds raised through our 200 Club which amounted to £5,020.

If you head to our Facebook page you will be able to see a much appreciated article published about the presentation in INYOURAREA.COM

Lovely to see so many people on lock side supporting this. It was an honour to have the West Mersea Lifeboat crew attend for what was their first PR function of the year! We also drew the weekly draws for April and the results are as follows, with each winning £50

No. 151 Janice and John Frost

No. 157 Jacqueline Yorston

No. 101 Steven Wood

No. 121 Lew Schnurr

Congratulations everyone and thanks for your continued support.

Please click on the link below to view our Thank You poster for everyone who has helped us achieve the grand total of £5000 to be donated to the RNLI for last year’s fundraising efforts through the 200 Club.

200 2020 Rejoin letter

We have now reached 200 members, which is fantastic news. This means we will be able to raise more funds for the RNLI and also pay out the maximum benefit to our members – a win win situation that we have been striving for since 2012!

Thanks again to one and all for your support. If you have missed out on becoming a member, that’s a shame, but keep looking on our Facebook page to see if any numbers become available.

Maldon Little Ship Sponsored Row December 2019

Rule Britannia, Britannia Waives the Rules….

We had a fantastic day on Saturday 28th December at the annual sponsored row for the RNLI organised by John Rodgers of the Maldon Little Ship Club (mlsc.org.uk).

It wasn’t too cold and very calm water. It was great to see the event so well attended and supported. This year the BBC sent a camera man and reporter and there was a very brief mention on Look East. As usual, we made a loud and colourful entrance! This year’s theme was Britannia and her take on BREXIT!!!

We are extremely proud to have retained the Panther Trophy for the most money raised by a single boat, virtually all thanks to the supporters of the 200 Club we run, raising funds for the Maldon branch of the RNLI. This year we raised over £4,500.

We were the first multiple ladies rowing boat home and third in the fancy dress.

Thank you everyone, again and a Happy New Year to you from Annette, Brenda, Chrys, Jill and Marion

Cheque Presentation and February Draws

We’re delighted to announce that we will be presenting our 200 Club cheque from the funds raised, including some very generous donations, last year at the annual RNLI Sherry Morning on Sunday 24th February. The amount of the cheque is a fantastic £5,020.00!!!

Prior to this, we will be holding the February draws with an estimated weekly prize of £45.50.

We wish to thank all our members for their valued and continued support.
