Meet the Greyhounds

Meet the Greyhounds

Today, 4th October, we had the welcome invitation to visit Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue a registered charity based in Little Totham, near Maldon, Essex, the benefactors of our scaled down fun dog show, held last month. We were able to meet the lovely Hannah and had great pleasure in presenting her with the £483 raised from the show together with some other donations! We also had the opportunity to meet some of the gorgeous greyhounds who are waiting to be re-homed.

It was a lovely morning and quite busy, arriving as one of the dogs was just leaving, having just been adopted, then a group of dogs returned from their walk with their handlers.

We normally raise more money from our fun dog shows, but this year due to early days of the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions we decided to play safe and keep numbers low by promoting it almost exclusively within our village. We hope that next year the world may have opened up again and we can have  a slightly larger show. To this end we intend to support Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue again.

Save the date of Saturday 17th September 2022!

Huge thank you to everyone who supported our show this year!

Oars and Paws Fun Dog Show 2021

Best in Show 2021 Truffle

Best in Show 2021 Truffle

Our fun dog show finally happened on Saturday 18th September! We thought long and hard about whether to run the show this year due to the uncertainty of COVID restrictions. We decided to go ahead but on a much scaled down event promoting to just Heybridge Basin residents and their families.

We had a fabulous day with very warm sunshine and a manageable number of entrants and spectators and we raised a very respectable £460 for Clarks Farm Greyhound Re-homing centre, a local charity in Little Totham. We shall be visiting them next month to present them with the money and also have the chance to see some of the dogs.

We hope to run  the show next year, so hold the date for Saturday 17th September 2022!

On Saturday 24th April we had a cheque presentation from us to the Maldon Branch of the RNLI in respect of last year’s total funds raised through our 200 Club which amounted to £5,020.

If you head to our Facebook page you will be able to see a much appreciated article published about the presentation in INYOURAREA.COM

Lovely to see so many people on lock side supporting this. It was an honour to have the West Mersea Lifeboat crew attend for what was their first PR function of the year! We also drew the weekly draws for April and the results are as follows, with each winning £50

No. 151 Janice and John Frost

No. 157 Jacqueline Yorston

RNLI 200 Club Rejoin and Thank you

Please click on the link below to view our Thank You poster for everyone who has helped us achieve the grand total of £5000 to be donated to the RNLI for last year’s fundraising efforts through the 200 Club.

200 2020 Rejoin letter

We have now reached 200 members, which is fantastic news. This means we will be able to raise more funds for the RNLI and also pay out the maximum benefit to our members – a win win situation that we have been striving for since 2012!

Thanks again to one and all for your support. If you have missed out on becoming a member, that’s a shame, but keep looking on our Facebook page to see if any numbers become available.

The Oars and Paws Fun Dog Show 2020 update

IMG_6260

Some of you may have been wondering what has happened to our fun dog show this year and it probably won’t come as a surprise to realise that due to the current madness in the world caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s show has very sadly had to be cancelled.

We’re extremely disappointed to not go ahead, but it just wouldn’t have been practicable or safe for all those concerned in the running of it and for those to attend. It would also have been irresponsible of us to expect everyone, in whatever capacity, to support us at this time.

It is our intention, conditions being favourable and safe, to hold the show next September 2021. We shall keep you updated in good time throughout the coming months and hopefully see you then!

In the meantime, stay safe and fingers crossed that the madness subsides and we can resume a life which somehow reflects what we have enjoyed previously!

What do you want to do ?
